One form of religious immortality is that after death you either go to heaven or hell forever. Another form is that after numerous reincarnations on earth as a person or lower animal, with much suffering along the way, if your are good enough, you ascend to a conscious realm of unity with many consciousnesses even god like consciousnesses Supposedly you are still conscious but not as an individual but as part of a universal consciousness.
