An Atheist's Perspective on Death and the Afterlife

From Aware Theory

Jerome has many good points about how to live ones life. It seem that he believes that religions like christianity can take away one's responsibility for one actions when all you have to do is believe or better yet, pretend to believe in a particular version of Christianity and then you will be saved from hell --- the eternal punishment for wrong doing. If this is the case there is no real justice when the people that do good through their lives go to hell for not believing in a self serving belief system. Superimmortality does not take away anything from the positive things that Jerome believes in plus, it gives him and others the things that they wish were true about religions. fear of death life after death, reunion with loved one's or

Jerome believes that death is like what you experienced before you were born. This is not the same as saying that before you were born you experience nothing and after you die you will experience nothing again as in not being aware of not being aware. Superimmortality predicts that there may or may not be any other body or brains in the universe or multiverse producing a consciousness that you are experiencing at any one time. So when you were born there could be may different brains producing a consciousness that you experience, and when your current body dies there might be many other bodies/ brains producing consciousness that you will be continuing to experience even after your current body is dead. This is scientifically based on the scientific concept of the continuity of the structure and functioning of matter not on the continuity of a body. You might respond that you do not experience these other consciousnesses, consequently, they can not be you. If this was true then you do not experience the past experiences that occurred at previous times in your life that you think you have had, nor do you experience what you will experience in the future, consequently they can not be the "now" you either. Just because a structure and functioning of matter is not producing the "now" experience does not mean that you do not experience it when and where it is actually produced. It is not like the future or past are uniquely different. According to Einstein time is a dimension just like the three dimensions of space. The past and future of time exists in reality just like the various areas in space do. Just because you are in one area of space does not mean the other areas of space do not exist. In the same way just because you appear to be traveling through one region of time does not mean that the other regions of time are none existent. From different observers in the universe your past and future consciousnesses are being produced now. This is because the structures and functionings of matter that are producing these consciousnesses are being produced now.
