Essence of self argument

The Essence of Self Argument is the argument that there is some essential essence of a conscious self in a body that at death is permanently lost; that is more than the material aspects of the body's structure and functioning. This is a belief that is held but not justified by many none religious people.
Some of the arguments for the essence of self are based on the consequence of there being no unique essence that is the self (like a soul), as a consequence the self should be able to be materially duplicated. This means that the self can be produced in more than one body at the same time, with the consequence that there can be life after death produced in other bodies. This is considered, however, by many to be nonsensical and thus impossible. The impossibleness of this consequence is supposed to make a need for the uniqueness and singularness of the self a reality.
