Facticity and transcendence of the self argument

From Aware Theory

Facticity and transcendence are ideas that are sometimes used in existentialism when dealing with the concept of the self and consciousness. Facticity basically means what you are and were and transcendence means what you could have been or all the things that you could be in the future. There are two aspects of the self the behavior of the body and the consciousness that this body produces which you experience. Facticity and transcendence ideas apply to a singular finite length life time; the what your could have been compared to what you actually became in your singular finite life. In terms used by superimmortality when your current body dies facticity applies to the behaviorpath and awarepath this body produced. The concept of transcendence applied to a consideration of all of the behaviorpaths and awarepaths that your body could have produced. If a person has only has one life time to live and experience there is an angst that they should make the most of this one life time. The science of superimmortality makes the distinction between the actual physapath that the body produces thus the actual awarepath it produces and all of the potential physapaths thus potential awarepaths that it could or can produce that have the same ixperiencitness.

When a person understands the principles of superimmortality he realizes that there are many different conscious versions of a person. The fear of death is reduced, the fear of life can be increased because there are no guarantee that what you experience in your future present life or in other future lives will be enjoyable.

According to existentialism people are (1) defined only insofar as they act and (2) that they are responsible for their actions. As far as #1 is concerned superimmortality defines a person as having a physipath (physical characteristics), behaviorpath (behavior), awarepath (consciousness) and ixpepath (ixperiencitness). As far as #2 is concerned superimmortality predicts that the same physapath will always produce the same behaviorpath, awarepath, and ixpepath.

"In existentialism, authenticity is the degree to which one is true to one's own personality, spirit, or character, despite external pressures; the conscious self is seen as coming to terms with being in a material world and with encountering external forces, pressures, and influences which are very different from, and other than, itself. A lack of authenticity is considered in existentialism to be bad faith."(wiki) Superimmortality predicts that there an an enumerable amount of different consciousness a person will experience when the consciousness producing physapath exists. There is thus no real or authenticity you nor any bad faith you there are many different potential conscious versions of you. Some of these versions can be considered to be more painful, difficult, less desirable, against one's personality etc. Existential authenticity could be defined for each awarepath but more likely there are many different "authentic" you's for each awarepath depending on the external perspective of authenticity. Different externapaths when applied to an internapath will produce different physapaths and thus different behaviorpaths and awarepaths. Since many of these awarepaths will have the same ixperiencitness, but a different "authenticity" there does not exist one real authenticity for a self.
