Metaphysics

From Aware Theory

The word derives from the Greek words (metá) (meaning "beyond" or "after") and (physiká) (meaning "physical"). Even though it might seem like it would mean a study beyond the physical making it supernatural. It actually meant, to begin with, the philosopher's Aristotle book, that can after the book that was called or about "physical". Aristotle called some of the subjects treated in the Metaphysics book "first philosophy."

Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy that investigates principles of reality transcending those of any particular science. Cosmology, ontology and the philosophy of mind are traditional branches of metaphysics. It is concerned with explaining the fundamental nature of being and the world.
