Religious theories of the self

From Aware Theory

Religious theories of the self are a singular view of the self, but extended after death in very limited ways. What this means is that before or after death there is just one you. This may seem overwhelming obvious because of the way consciousness is experienced by humans usually as one conscious moment after another never repeating the same conscious moment over and in a way that seems progressional with past memories of believed experiences and future desires and expectations not yet experienced but imagined. The heaven or hell dichotomy is limited to painful or on the other hand narrowly defined but presumed enjoyable experiences. This view point of the self is contrasted with the mortalist theory of self where there is only this life and not conscious existence after death.
