Salt analogy

From Aware Theory

Salt analogy or Salt creation experiment analogy is an analogy for the prediction that awaretheory makes that a cidentireplica will produce the same consciousness and ixperiencitness as the original that it is a cidentireplica of or other cidentireplicas of the original. If you mix the elements chlorine and sodium together you get table salt or sodium chloride. If you did not know this and for the first time combined these elements, in a safe way, you would get table salt. If you were to predict what you would get if you did the experiment again in exactly the same way, but with different matter, in a different place and time, it would be a reasonable scientific prediction that you would produce table salt again. You would be reassured of your prediction when the end produce of the second experiment has all the physical properties of table salt including tasting like salt, looking like salt, having the weight and crystal structure of salt and behaving like salt in other experiments. The first experiment is the original and it produced a certain consciousness and ixperiencitness you may not know what those are but you can observe in many different ways the behavior of the original over time. A cidentireplica is a repetition of the experiment of the original with different matter in a different place and time. A reasonable scientific prediction of what consciousness and ixperiencitness the cidentireplica will produce will be what the original produced. You would be reassured of your prediction when the cidentireplica had exactly the same behavior as the original did.

The salt experiment can be repeated over many different times and the results can be compared to the original or first experiment. If the results are the same this give extra proof of the prediction. If the results are different from the first experiment or between subsequent experiments there will be one or more physical properties or conditions of the compared experiments that were different. Certain differing physical conditions will change aspects of the experiment but not the end results such as the temperature that the experiment was carried out with. But other physical conditions such as proportions of the elements will change the resulting mixture so you will get a mixture of salt and either chlorine or sodium. None the less conditions that are not identical can give further support for the first prediction so even though you may not get pure salt the fact that you get some salt in many experiments gives support to the original prediction.

Most theories that predict about the consciousness and ixperiencitness that a cidentireplica will produce would predict that the cidentireplica would not have or produce the same consciousness and ixperiencitness that the original produced in spite of the fact that the cidentirepilica would have exactly the same behavior as the original. Duplications of the cidentireplica would just give extra evidence for identity of consciousness and ixperiencitness between the original and its cidentireplicas. Proof is not limited by identity of cidentireplica, variation of the cidentireplica, now called videntireplicas will give further proof of still identical behavior or only slight differences in behavior.

A replica of a person, no mater how exact, is not the same person as the original person, is often stated as a philosophical or scientific fact. When stated in a salt experiment analogous way replica salt is not the same as original salt. The replica salt is not made of the same matter, nor is it in the same place as the original salt. The replica salt can either have the same or different other physical properties that are not unique to salt such as temperature and particles or crystal size. it can be argued that if these contingent properties are not identical then the replica is not identical. Different groupings of salt can have identical properties no matter how they are made. Different people can have identical properties such as identical structure and functioning, consciousness, and ixperiencitness while having different physical properties like being made of different matter and being in a different place and time.

does not have the property of originalness .
