Structure and functioning of matter mapping arguments
More actions
Structure and functioning of matter mapping arguments are arguments that show that mortalism and religious theories of immortality are not scientific because they are not able to map structure and functioning of matter to specific consciousnesses or to specific selves.
For example, superimmortality predicts that a specific structure and functioning of matter will produce a specific consciousness and self. Whereas the mortalist position is that after a person dies replicating the same structure and functioning will not produce the same consciousness, and if it does produce the same consciousness then it will not produce the same self. If replicating the same structure and functioning of matter produced the same self then there would be a case of life after death, which mortalist's deny. The religious position is that there is something more than just the structure and functioning of matter that defines and produces the self. So structure and functioning of matter alone can not map to the same self.
Arguments for the multiplicity of the self
Superimmortality allows mapping of behavior to structure and functioning of matter
Superimmortality allows mapping of self identity to structure and functioning of matter
Superimmortality allows mapping of consciousnesses to structure and functioning of matter
Superimmortality allows mapping of the conscious self to structure and functioning of matter
Mortalism does not allows mapping of the conscious self to structure and functioning of matter
