The Odds Of An Afterlife...Fail - Atheist Experience

From Aware Theory

Starting at minute 6 Matt makes a statement:

"What is there that can possibly live on after my death? because as far as we know every function of who I am what I am and what I do all of my thoughts and everything else are electro chemical processes in my brain which we know dies. In order for there to be an afterlife there must then be something that is me that is separate from the physical being, and there is no evidence that any such thing exists."

"If we found out that there was something like that if there was something that would qualify as a soul or some entity like that we had some good reason to think could survive the physical death then all of a sudden the afterlife starts becoming a little more probable but as long as its ..?... the probability of an afterlife is vanishing small as long as we can explain all of who we are and what we are to the best of our ability right now with our brain then there is no reason to posit anything like a soul and there is no basis for making a claim about an afterlife. That is why I think that the odds are lower."

At the death of the brain it transforms from a very complex functioning system to a basically very different functioning piece of matter. Chemical process are still going on in the brain after death but are very different from before.

Electro chemical processes do not die they change or stop functioning like they were before death of the body. To be alive again, for the original person, after his death is to return the body to a structure and functioning that produces a consciousness that he will experience. If the dead body's structure and functioning is restored is like it was when he was exactly 20 years old it wold produce the consciousness that his body produced when he was exactly twenty years old. If the restored structure and functioning was like it was a few days before death it would produce the consciousness that it did
