Karma
More actions
Karma means action, work or deed; it also refers to the principle of causality where intent and actions of an individual influence the future of that individual. Good intent and good deed contribute to good karma and future happiness, while bad intent and bad deeds contribute to bad karma and future suffering. Karma is closely associated with the idea of rebirth in some schools of Asian religions. In these schools, karma in the present affects one's future in the current life, as well as the nature and quality of future lives. With origins in ancient India, it is a key concept in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Taoism, Shintoism, Ching Hai and others.
Superimmortality also has a sense of karma though it is not a supernatural concept for superimmortality. Good or bad things (actions, deeds, efforts) that you do now can effect present or future versions of yourself in positive or negative ways. For karma to be real it means that there has to be some process where you suffer or are rewarded for your behavior beyond your current life. In this life people are rewarded or punished for things they do, often unfairly. The religious theories of karma try to make the randomness of the universe a more just place. But the universe being random in it occurrences is not just. Superimmortalism allows the random universe to be just. This is because it allows the universe to be conscious and aware of its injustices to the conscious beings that it creates. This alone is not enough. If people have short lives with no opportunity to consciously exist ever again after death, the injustices that one experiences in one life can never be undone. Kant used this as a reason that life after death or immortality should be possible because he believed that universe should be a just place. He also thought that for immortality to be possible it required a god to exist being the cause of life after death for humans. Superimmortalism has an understandable scientific cause for universal justice. It is a consequence of the ixperiencitness concept. Many different functioning groupings of matter can produce the same ixperiencitness but with different consciousness. An ixperiencitness grouping of consciousnesses contains both good and bad (unpleasant, unjust) consciousnesses. Over time the good and bad consciousness can even out or there can even be many more good consciousness than bad consciousnesses over all for an ixperiencitness grouping. The more the different consciousness work together with knowledge and good ideas the more likely justice will prevail. Whereas the more selfish and stupid the actions of each conscious being is the more likely there will be an end all conscious existence and a universe that created a great deal of injustice.
